Introduction to Saint Vincent

Book excerpt: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a small island country located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. The indigenous Carib people inhabited Saint Vincent before it was colonized by Europeans in the 18th century. The island became a British colony and was a major center for the production of sugar and other crops using enslaved labor. In 1979, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gained independence from Britain and became a sovereign nation. Today, it is known for its beautiful beaches, tropical climate, and vibrant culture.
