Book excerpt: Excerpt from Baccalaureate Addresses and Other Talks on Kindred Themes The greater part of tins volume is made up of talks to students. Some were delivered at the opening of the academic year. These deal chiefly with the moral and religious problems of college life. Others were given on the Sunday of Commencement week, before the graduating classes of the university and their friends. These deal with the questions which a man must answer when he makes choice of a career. At the time when most of these addresses were delivered I did not expect that they would be collected or preserved in a published book. They were prepared as talks to a changing audience, not as chapters in a permanent volume. Issuing them, as I now do, in answer to requests from a number of graduates and friends of the university, a it has seemed best to leave them as nearly as possible in their original form.
