Book excerpt: I recall growing up in an environment where it could have been easy to take on a life that is very different than the one I live today in recovery from myself and my addictions. I was exposed to so many things from different extremes that I didn't know where I fit in. I was confused about my feelings and my place in this life. I was just breathing and existing. Fortunately today I am enlightened and hope to convince you that you must constantly reevaluate yourself to live in the truth and purpose for which you were created. That is what is IMPORTANT. I was challenged to dispel the hype, pseudo superstardom, a high-powered career, and significant revenue, more than I had ever made. I invite you to take the journey with me and I'm still not done. Although what's important to me is probably different than what's important to you. Too often, I have encountered people from all lifestyles who get caught up in the depiction and facade of what's essential. Trying to keep up with the Joneses is not it, especially since my last name is Womack. There was a time when my life had been full of clichés. The whole "broke, busted and disgusted," "tore up from the floor up," and "don't have a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out of" were my go-to phrases. As I stood in downtown Decatur, Georgia I had a moment of clarity during my pity party. I had been on crack for the last 18 months. My drive to be self-destructive was starting to fade. I now just wanted to die slowly. Life was so negative that dying fast seemed too good for me. Just like those people across the street from me in the square. I sat on that concrete bench watching life. Not just life - but their lives, his life, her life, my life; all walking right past me. I could not move.
