The work in preparing these guidelines was carried out under the coastal construction research program of the u.s. Army Coastal Engineering Research Center (cerc). This report was prepared by the staff of the Engineering Develop ment Division of cerc. Special acknowledgment is expressed to Messrs. Dennis W. Berg and Adrian J. Combe III for their technical contributions to these guidelines. The guidelines were reviewed in the early stage of preparation by the u.s. Army Engineer Division, North Central, Corps of Engineers; comments and suggestions from the Division Engineer, North Central, were incorporated into the final report.
