Practices for Establishing Contract Completion Dates for Highway Projects

Book excerpt: Establishing contract time is an important part of the highway project development process. Contract time directly impacts project costs, the public, and risk for contractors. This synthesis documents current methodologies and procedures used in state transportation agencies to estimate contract time for various highway project delivery methods. Information used in this study was gathered through a literature review and a survey of state transportation agencies. Follow-up interviews with selected agencies provided additional information. Timothy R.B. Taylor, Roy E. Sturgill, Jr., and Ying Li, University of Kentucky, Lexington, collected and synthesized the information and wrote the report. This synthesis is an immediately useful document that records the practices that were acceptable within the limitations of the knowledge available at the time of its preparation.
