Skin Diseases in the Immunocompromised

Book excerpt: As the number of surviving immune suppressed patients continues its rapid increase, the skin manifestations have become increasingly important. AIDS patients and renal, heart, liver, bone marrow and lung transplant patients are surviving longer and are often experiencing skin side effects of immunity suppression. Immunosuppressive drugs are being used more frequently and newer biologics and tyrosine kinase drugs have added to new categories of immune suppressed patients.
