Book excerpt: Adaptation Part 4 reveals what went on inside the Wheaton Facility following Ottavio's rampage. Father Abraham and his Directors must come to terms with the loss of Kahira, decades of planning and the Crabman virus. Ryan is equally devastated until he realizes that the quest to reignite the struggle applies to himself. Ottavio, having escaped the explosion in Wheaton, must walk through Hell and face his demons, both tangible and intangible, to find salvation. Part four finds Ryan and Ottavio in their own turmoil. They both learn the nature of uncertainty. One finds that destiny is a direct result of his actions, while the other must risk everything to get what he desires.
