Book excerpt: This Code has two aims: to improve the record keeping on apparatus installed below street level, and to make access to the information easier. To reduce injuries, inconvenience, damage and disruption to customers of those undertaking the work, the Highways Authorities and Utilities Committee (HAUC) has agreed that this code should be adopted by anyone carrying out street works under the Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
