Lithostratigraphy, Sedimentology, Paleontology, Organic Petrology, and Organic Geochemistry of the Middle Devonian Ashern, Winnipegosis, and Eyot Formations in East-central Alberta and West-central Saskatchewan

Book excerpt: This report describes the Middle Devonian Elk Point Group of Alberta & Saskatchewan. The purpose of the report is to describe the onlap of the Middle Devonian strata in east central Alberta; to establish the map units used to illustrate the onlap; to show that the succession is distinctly different from that in south central Saskatchewan; and to integrate & discuss borehole information obtained from micropaleontological, organic petrological, geochemical, lithological, and sedimentological studies. After an overview of the Group's geological setting, detailed lithostratigraphic information is presented for each formation of the Group, including their regional distribution, lithology, sedimentology, paleontology, geochemistry, and stratigraphy.
