Performing Pedagogy in Early Modern England

Book excerpt: The essays in this collection question the extent to which education in early modern England, an activity pursued in the home, classroom, and the church led to, mirrored and was perhaps transformed by moments of instruction on stage. Contributors examine how educational theories and practices intersect with and construct ideas about gender, class, and national identity and investigate how education was performed and performative, both on stage and off.
