Book excerpt: This report provides information on the quality of life for U.S. military personnel deployed to the Balkans, where U.S. Army ground forces have been deployed since December 1995. The Army has spent over $2 billion to develop camps and implement services to sustain deployed personnel and to enhance the soldiers' quality of life. The report discusses (1) how the Army defines and views the quality of life of deployed soldiers there, and (2) an independent assessment of quality of life at three base camps in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Macedonia.
