Book excerpt: About The Book The seventh book of the Chronicles of Mattias. The war against the Xeneid immortal invaders has come to a stalemate. Mattias and his family and army return to peace and await news of Xeneid movements as the Kingdom of Somna is now fully occupied by the Xeneids dealing harshly with the Somnan immortals. Potera of Baestra and her sisters are now living in Kir Oasis training for the eventual showdown in the Eternum Wars. While Prince Xerxes and Lord Seth remain in Somna as guests of the Xeneid invaders. As things begin to change, Mattias decides it’s time to visit the Wastelands of the Bestianari, trying to understand why they allied with the Xeneids in the Battle of Anderra. Puzzled, and against the wishes of his family, he sets off for the Wastelands with a small group including Potera and her sisters. They first make for the City of Baestra to find Potera's mother and remaining family to get them to safety ahead of the Xeneid secret police. There they find Prince Xerxes and Lord Seth in hiding and on the run. Or are they? The small party led by Mattias makes their way north to the mountains and then west through the forests above the Wastelands, encountering eyes following them. They eventually are guided to the edge of cliffs barring entry into a valley kingdom. Guided inside through lit tunnels by strange new pagans never before met, they encounter old friends they do not recognize. These new friends know Mattias and his children, but Mattias doesn’t recognize them. The mystery is solved. The Eternum Wars will finally end. Will the gods now let Mattias rest?
