Molly and her brother Jake were given up for adoption to their mother's sister, (a victim of abuse and sexual molestation) and her husband the ex-marine of German heritage. Jake suffers both physical and mental abuse at the hands of his new father.Molly is convinced if she does everything possible to please her new parents, they will love her. But, when her new father withholds food from her as a way to lose weight and her mother forcibly removes her teeth; she comes to believe they hate her because she is ugly.Through divorce and other atrocities, one-by-one the three other children are banished from the family. Molly is left to face the downward spiral of a mother obsessed with grandeur thoughts of fame; associated with a distorted view of religion.
